A Diva rides with “The Divas”

A Diva rides with “The Divas”.
Billy D and Me My amazing experience riding with “The Divas” Summer of 2008. In July, The Divas kicked off their cross-country adventure with a charity ride in Atlanta. I was honored along with my husband (Billy D, Vice President of the Georgia chapter of The Buffalo Soldiers) to support The Divas in this event. In promoting their cause (a cure for breast cancer) The Divas are vigilant, courageous, and graceful. I am a new rider and I practiced for months under the watchful and caring eyes of my husband, to be ready to ride with “The Divas”. I signed on as a pick up rider to accompany the ladies on part of their journey. I met the ladies in Pennsylvania where they were attending the National Bikers Round-Up.
I rode to Pennsylvania with my husband, stopping in Greensboro NC. We rode from Greensboro with members of the Greensboro chapter of The Buffalo Soldiers. That part of my journey was truly a test of my skills and my commitment to riding. We rode for long periods without stopping; we rode in torrential rain with almost no visibility. We rode in the rain up unfamiliar mountain roads.

I was the only woman riding with seven experienced men and I hung in there! I arrived at our destination (Seven Springs Resort) soaking wet and exhausted. I spent 4 days at the mountain resort, riding each day to the National Bikers Round- Up and spending time with “The Divas.” I was anxious because these ladies are experienced riders. I was impressed but not surprised at the discipline and uniformity of their riding. As we rode from Pennsylvania to Virginia and then from Virginia to Atlanta, I felt as if I had been riding with these ladies for years. I was welcomed and taken care of. Riding with “The Divas” through the mountains of Virginia, through towns and into Atlanta, I felt proud to be one of the ladies as people in vehicles passing honked and waved their approval. Riding with “The Divas” was defiantly the highlight of my summer. I improved my riding skills and gained immeasurable confidence. I look forward to the possibility of doing the entire journey next time.
